Agro Services Authority is an institution which was established in terms of Agro Services Authority Statute, No. 01 of 2012, under Western Provincial Council as per a concept of Hon. Minister, Mr.Udaya Prabhath Gammanpila in order to uplift the living conditions of the community through various cultivations of crops, to encourage the community for efficient cultivations, to provide inputs, technological services, trainings, and financial facilities for the provision of necessary facilities for economic development through agricultural development in the Western Province.

Agro Services Authority, in terms of the above Statute, performs the functions of provision of agricultural technological services on commercial basis, encouragement of environment friendly cultivation methods, promotion of the industries based on agriculture, assisting to market agricultural products, reconstruction and maintenance of minor irrigation and provision of financial facilities for agricultural entrepreneurs.

The Western Province is highly prone to urbanization as well as consists of full of human resources than the other Provinces in Sri Lanka. In this circumstance, our intention is to uplift the agriculture making popular the agriculture which comes under the scope of our Ministry and getting attracted the people in the province to agriculture. In order to get fulfilled such intention, the Western Province Agro Services Authority was established.

The Agro Services Authority takes action incessantly to generate a self – sufficient agricultural society as per the vision of His Excellency Maithreepala Sirisena the President of Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The lack of labour force and limited space are the major issues faced in Agriculture in the Western Province.

Finding solutions for these problems, the Authority has also organized various projects to get attracted the community to agriculture from their school age. The people are idle to engage in agriculture due to limited space and cultivate in highly urbanized environment. Therefore training programmes are being implemented and instructions required for cultivation in a limited space are given as a remedial measure.

The traditional agriculture was gradually disappeared with the introduction of modern technology to agriculture as a result of approaching the green revolution to Sri Lanka. Consequently, Agro Services Authority made an ecclesiastical code for collection and securing the traditional agricultural knowledge for the future generation. Agro Services Authority has also taken action to motivate the community for consumption of poison free fruits and vegetables by developing urban houses and premises. බස්නාහිර පළාත තුල වස විසෙන් තොර එළවළු හා පළතුරු වැවීමට ගොවීන් දිරි ගැන්වීම, ගෙවතු ආදර්ශන ස්ථාපිත කිරීම, පාරම්පරික දේශීය වී නිෂ්පාදනය දිරි ගැන්වීම, ගෙවත්තට පැයක් වැඩසටහන ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම, මී මැසි පාලනය පිළිබඳ පුහුණු වැඩසටහන් පැවැත්වීම, වප මඟුල් උත්සවය පැවැත්වීම ආදී ව්‍යාපෘතීන් බොහොමයක් කෘෂි සේවා අධිකාරිය විසින් දියත් කර ඇත. මෙමඟින් ස්වයංරැකියා ලාභීන් විශාල පිරිසක් නඟා සිටුවීමට හැකි වී ඇත.

තවද, බස්නාහිර පළාත් කෘෂි සේවා අධිකාරිය විසින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන ව්‍යාපෘතීන් අතුරින් නව ව්‍යාපෘතියක් ලෙස 2017 වර්ෂයේදී ක්‍රියාත්මක වූ වස විසෙන් තොර ආහාර නිෂ්පාදන අලෙවි මධ්‍යස්ථානය මේ වන විට පාරිභෝගික ජනතාව අතර ඉතාමත් ජනප්‍රිය හා උසස් ප්‍රතිචාර ලැබෙන ව්‍යාපෘතියක් ලෙස සඳහන් කල හැකි අතර, ඒමඟින් අධිකාරියේ ආදායම් උත්පාදන තත්වය ඉහළ ගොස් ඇත.

කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය නඟා සිටුවීම කෘෂිකර්මාන්තයට දායක වන ගොවීන්ට අත්වැලක් වීම අපගේ ප්‍රධානතම අරමුණ වන අතර මෙම අරමුණ සාක්ෂාත් කර ගැනීම සඳහා බස්නාහිර පළාත් කෘෂිකර්ම අමාත්‍ය ගාමිණි තිලකසිරි මැතිතුමාගෙන්ද, කෘෂිකර්ම අමාත්‍යංශ ලේකම් නයනානන්ද නිල්වල මැතිතුමාගෙන්ද, අප වෙත ලැබෙන්නේ මහඟු සහයෝගයකි.

කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය නඟා සිටුවීම සඳහා බස්නාහිර පළාත් කෘෂි සේවා අධිකාරිය විසින් සිදු කරනු ලබන සේවාවන් සඳහා මූලිකත්වය ගෙන කටයුතු කිරීමට ලැබීම භාග්‍යයක් කොට සලකමි.
